The different parts of the student rig are:

Containers:

This is where both the main and the reserve are mounted (on the back of the rig.) The main canopy is stowed in the lower container and is attached by the three ring release system. The reserve canopy is stowed in the upper container and is permanently attached to the harness.

Harness:

A set of adjustable webbing which secures the container and the canopies to the jumper. Includes main lift web, chest strap and leg strap.

Main Pilot Chute Handle:

The handle that is thrown to deploy the main canopy is located on the lower right side of the container.

Cut-away Handle:

A bright pillow-like handle mounted chest high on the right front of the harness. Pulling it releases the main parachute risers from the harness at the three-rings.

Reserve Ripcord Handle:

A metal handle located on the left front of the harness chest high; when pulled the reserve deploys.

Automatic Activation Device (AAD) - Cypres:

A backup! This tiny computer is mounted under the reserve flap and is set to activate the reserve pin only at a pre-set speed and altitude. (In case you for some reason don’t deploy either canopy.)

Reserve Static Line release system (RSL):

Another backup! Connects the main canopy risers with the reserve pin.
